October 26, 2013Baptist Health South Florida’s Barbour Elected to Lead Public Relations Society of America in 2015
PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 26, 2013) — The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)’s Leadership Assembly voted today to elect Kathy Barbour, APR, corporate director, public relations and marketing, Baptist Health South Florida, chair of the Society for 2015. In 2014, Barbour will serve as PRSA’s chair-elect on the national Board of Directors. The Leadership Assembly, a group of more than 300 delegates representing PRSA’s Districts, Chapters, Sections and student society, voted to ratify the PRSA Nominating Committee’s selection of Barbour to lead the organization beginning Jan. 1, 2015. The Leadership Assembly meets annually immediately prior to the PRSA International Conference. “We are in the midst of an exciting time, and I’m honored to lead PRSA during 2015,” said Barbour. “It’s a privilege to work with a prestigious organization like PRSA - the world’s largest and foremost organization of public relations professionals. This is an excellent opportunity for me to give back to our profession and help shape the future of public relations.” A number of other candidates selected by the Nominating Committee were elected to the PRSA Board of Directors today for two-year terms beginning in 2014. Her experience ranges from executive and strategic employee communications to media relations, crisis and issues management, and marketing. Barbour has worked with CEOs and senior management teams in enhancing employee engagement, culture and two-way communication to assist executives in improving their communication skills and in supporting organizational goals and objectives. Barbour previously served in various communications roles at Mayo Clinic and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, where she was responsible for leadership communications, internal and external communications and financial public relations. She also was a member of the executive team for Mayo Clinic’s Center for Social Media. Throughout her career, Barbour has been active in PRSA, including serving on the Board of Directors. Barbour is the current national secretary and previously held the positions of treasurer in 2012 and secretary in 2011. She has won national and state awards for her work, including the PRSA Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation. “Kathy is going to be a bright shining star as chair in 2015,” said Nall, PRSA 2013 Chair and CEO. “She brings to the role an outstanding ability to collaborate with our various constituencies, an integrated approach to public relations and marketing for organizations, as well as a deeply rooted and grounded success in chapter management.  She knows every facet of the PRSA agenda and will focus on adding member value at every PRSA event and program.   Kathy will be as hard-working and results driven for PRSA as she has been in her professional pursuits, first at Mayo Clinic and now at Baptist Health South Florida in Miami.” About the Public Relations Society of America
